Bicep Pain - What can cause it and how to heal it.
A client came into the Z-Line Fitness studio complaining of biceps (upper arm) pain. The pain had gotten to the point where he was feeling it throughout the day and it was hampering his work and tennis game. Even though he had done some physical therapy for his injury, the pain persisted.
Craig helped the client rehabilitate his injury and relieve his pain in just one session. Well, it took a couple of weeks for the pain to go away but it only took one session for the client to learn the real reason he was in so much pain. Once we figured this out, he then knew what he had to stop doing to relieve his pain. Since they had not figured this out in his physical therapy sessions, they were only able to partially treat his injury.
The client had tendonitis caused by a repetitive stress activity. Repetitive stress injuries occur when there is a movement or held posture that is done throughout the day, day in, and day out. The repetitive nature of the activity stresses the muscle and ligaments surrounding a joint. If you continue to do the repetitive movement or hold a specific improper or unbalanced posture too long, then it starts to create some adverse effects.
One thing that happens is the ligaments and tendons, the things that connect your muscles to bones or bones to each other, become stressed and inflamed. This inflammation causes pain. Also, fascia thickens and binds the muscle, creating pain and immobility. Fascia in humans is much like the thin film you see on an uncooked chicken breast. It is a naturally occurring substance throughout our bodies. However, the body will start to thicken the material and it becomes like a spider's web, restricting the movement of the muscles and body as a whole. Small tears can also occur in the fascia, which can be very painful.
Without being able to search out and find the true cause of the injury or pain, then we can never fully treat the injury itself.
